Reminder:
At the beginning of each New Year, people are making new resolutions. Maybe you have a personal goal of losing 10 lbs. Or maybe you are trying to put those dreaded cigarettes down for the New Year. Whatever the resolution, we want to make sure that you meet your goal. By becoming active in AIR "The Association of Independent Residents" and touching base with your case worker, you can meet all your goals in 2008. |

| COORDINATOR'S CORNER; WHAT SHELTER PLUS CARE PROGRAM REALLY IS |
| For the past few months, I have been receiving phone calls from individuals wanting to be part of the Shelter Plus Care Program. Most of the calls have been from individuals that want an apartment at a cheaper rent. However, this is not what the program is totally about. Shelter Plus Care is not another version of a low income housing otherwise known as Section 8. Shelter Plus Care is a program in which the person applying for the program is homeless (living on the streets, living in a shelter) and is receiving Mental Health Services from Advantage Behavioral Health Systems. Our program does not take anyone that is only suffering from substance abuse. I encourage all residents that are apart of this program or know others that want to become apart of this program to know the facts before spreading the word to others. Even though our program is growing, the waiting list is growing as well. All residents apart of this program are expected to be active in his or her community. Those not taking an active part will need to find another residence. |
